Competitions

Whether you're stepping onto a green for the first time or a seasoned bowler looking for friendly competition, there's a place for you at BHBC. Our playing membership opens up a complete ladder of opportunities — from relaxed Monday roll-ups and Friday club drives through to league bowls, club competitions, and beyond for those who want it. You choose how far you want to go; the club supports you at every level.

Internal Club Competitions

Closer to home, we run a full programme of internal club competitions throughout the season, open to all playing members — singles, pairs, triples, and more. These are a great way to develop your game and test yourself against fellow members in a friendly, supportive setting.

League Fixtures

We field teams in four local leagues — the Mid Sussex Bowling League, Border League, John Spriggs League, and Nicholas Soames League — giving members plenty of regular competitive bowls throughout the season. Fixtures and results are managed through the member portal.

Invitation Events & Beyond

Throughout the season we also take part in a range of competitions and invitation tournaments — the Tom Francis mixed double rink, the Tony Allcock Trophy for over-60s, and events hosted by clubs across Sussex such as the Newick Triples, Southwick Rinks, and the Haywards Heath Millennium Cup — as well as hosting our own charity day, the Malcolm Mackenzie. These are great social occasions as much as competitive ones.

For those who want to go further, the club enters selected team events at county and national level, and individual members are free to enter Sussex County Bowls and Bowls England competitions independently — your playing membership covers the affiliation fees.

The Rowland Cup

We also organise and host the Edward and Gladys Rowland Cup, one of Sussex's longest-running inter-club competitions. Around 50 clubs from across the county enter each year, competing across two separate draws, with Finals Day held here in Burgess Hill.
